IVAPS’ KDIG is a platform that consolidates years of extensive experience and competence in designing, incubating and growing best-in-class offshore research centers. It ensures integrity and eliminates risks of an open innovation process. It enables establishing 100% customized and dedicated research center for innovation intelligence and intellectual property related requirements of a business partner. It facilitates on-demand rapid scaling of research center operations for a defined period - acquiring infrastructure and deploying resources. IKDIG™ designed research centers are flexible to take the shape of a reserved capacity model during the growth phase if the partner needs the captive operations to extend beyond the defined period with continued minimum support in terms of professionals and infrastructure regardless of the workload.

KNOW

The established research capacity or captive unit for open innovation requires the integration of intellectual capital life cycle management processes within and across the enterprise. This phase helps knowing and clearly understanding the business requirements of our business partners and the mechanics of optimizing the proposed value. The phase provides essential inputs to customize the captive unit operations according to the unique needs of a business partner spanning across services such as industry analysis, product analysis, trend sighting, technology forecasting, patent drafting, patent prosecution, patentability assessments, prior art searches, patent mining, patent portfolio construction and audit etc. The phase builds clear understanding of the multiple dimensions of the business requirements to propose and execute the center operations in a highly disciplined manner.

DESIGN

The design phase helps assess and optimize as to how well the partners can nurture and extract the value from the partnership. The process is designed to seamlessly extend the innovation value chain of the partner. In most of the organizations such processes may already exist - however, more often than not, these processes are immature owing to their evolution in isolation oblivious of the external capabilities and interdependencies. The key objective in the design phase is to design for optimization of the performance in order to deliver value added services towards meeting the partner’s R&D objectives.

INCUBATE

This phase involves incubation of the Virtual Research Center to institue and equip it with resources necessary to evolve the value proposition. The center is then gradually allowed to transform itself into an extended integral arm of the partner’s research and innovation function. It involves consistent close interactions with the partner’s research and product development team. The incubation in alignment with open innovation objectives involves setting-up and kick-starting operational activities such as acquisition of infrastructure, resources and research professionals to execute the proposed delivery model for a business partner.

GROW

This phase spins off the research centre into an orbit of exclusive captive unit which has a dedicated research team to further the growth and the value proposition by continually improving the strategic partnership. The partnership is empowered to deliver optimal benefits by deep integration or re-engineering for more granular or specific needs. It includes activities like auditing and monitoring the value enhancements, scaling the operations on-demand, lowering infrastructure costs and widening the service portfolio or offerings.
